Wisconsin enjoys a generally clean and abundant groundwater resource.     Two State Natural Areas are Crex Sand Prairie and Reed Lake Meadow. Habitat. Over half of the acreage at Crex Meadows consists of wetland communities, primarily sedge meadows and marshes, as well as deep-water marsh and flowages. There also are significant acreages of grassland, restored brush-prairie, and forests of oak, jack pine, and aspen. This state-owned, 30,acre complex of marsh, woodlands and prairies is located in Burnett County north of Grantsburg. Crex Meadows features colonies of nesting herons, breeding eagles and osprey, sharp-tailed grouse and trumpeter swans, Karner blue butterflies and Blanding's turtles as well as large concentrations of sandhill cranes, waterfowl and eagles in the fall.

    This is an expansive wildlife area that generally follows the course of Muddy Creek and County Highway E for approximately 5 miles (1 mile north of the Interstate and 4 miles south).
